Such days are most enjoyed in the company of relatives and friends – so, get them together and enjoy a picturesque picnic in the countryside around Cleveland.

These top 3 Mississippi Delta’s best picnic spots will offer a perfect setting for your much-awaited days off –

1.      The Greenway in Cleveland

Cleveland’s Greenway travels right through downtown on a converted, shaded former rail line that has been converted to beautifully landscaped park and trail passing through the old Cotton Row district downtown. The trail, long a favorite of early morning runners and walkers, has a pavilion for picnickers and is even musical, playing the music of the Mississippi delta at a low volume along its length.

In addition to its value as a picnicking and walking and running trail, the area is home to several events, including the city’s 50 Nights of Lights holiday lights events, and Octoberfest, one of the largest fall festivals in the Delta region.

2.    Terrene Landing in Rosedale

American Queen paddleboat calling at Terrene Landing in Rosedale

Situated just north of Rosedale, Terrene Landing is a perfect picnic spot for for unobstructed views of the Mississippi River in it’s almost natural state. From your perch on one of the few bluffs in the Delta, you can look across to the Arkansas side of the river which looks much like it has for hundreds of years. And, because you’re facing west, if you time your trip right you may be able to catch one of our famous Delta sunsets in all of its glory

And, for boat watchers, Terrene landing is ideal with the calling of both American Cruise Lines and Viking Cruise Lines to this little port of call on the mighty Mississippi.

The area is constantly being updated. New restrooms have recently been constructed, as well as benches and a walkway/viewing area. A nature trail through the area is also planned for the near future.

3     Dockery Farms in Cleveland

Located just outside of Cleveland, Dockery Farms is a quietly famous destination on the Sunflower River. The first tunes of Delta Blues originated on this farm, and the buildings remain a unique example of architectural plantation in the early 20th century of Mississippi Delta.

Dockery Farms is also considered to be the birthplace of the blues. Although there’s no absolute certainty where the blues had their beginnings. Located in the heart of Mississippi Delta, this historic plantation community was established by Will Dockery but is most famous as the home of Charley Patton, the creative early blues musician who influenced other performers, among them Son House, Robert Johnson, Bukka White, and Howlin' Wolf.
